Our Values

Parity of esteem for all vocational learning trainees

We understand empowerment to be a process that allows an individual to gain the knowledge, skill-sets and attitude needed to cope with the changing world and the circumstances in which they live.

This value is important to us because we recognise that we live in a fast-changing global economy and the concept of empowerment is extremely important to the success of companies. Organisations need individuals that are empowered to make decisions.

Empowerment is the totality of a range of capabilities including; iincreasing one's positive self-image and overcoming stigma , ability to learn skills for improving one's personal or group power, having access to information and resources for taking proper decisions.

It is vital that individuals do not feel 'whipped' when they make a mistake. Punishment (however they perceive it) will only cause people to reduce their feelings of empowerment. It is important to approach corrective action as a learning process and allow individuals to feel confident and assured that he/she is still doing the right thing. It is very easy to discourage with negative feedback.

Customer Impact

we aim to add something a little special to the workplace learning experience of our trainees We don't claim to have pixie dust or the magic empowerment wand.

But we do encourage a learning environment which promotes a sense of confidence or self-esteem using a coaching approach and motivational interviewing techniques.

Visit the website of our charity The Microloan Foundation and/or read the fact sheet by clicking on the link below to see how 'empowerment' can work in other countries.
